Cheeky Santa Earrings, Tree & Cake Decoration
thingiverse
This started as a special request from my lovely wife for some unique earrings to be ready for Christmas! Now there's a Mrs. Santa!!! Check out the Mk2 version link at the bottom. Not wanting to start from scratch, I remixed an existing Santa file, see below for the original. The design may not be to everyone's taste, but if it's not then just smile and move on. The file was loaded into Meshmixer and the alterations began. The clothing was shrunk to form the body, the hat was shrunk to form a hanger. The beard and face were reworked slightly, and obviously a new hat was created to hide his necessities. The hat's bobble was attached to his leg to remove the need for support. His forearms and hand were adjusted to hold the hat, and with a little bit of body sculpting, he was ready for setting up for printing. All the printing has been done with pink (the manufacturer refers to it as Skin) PLA. The Earrings. The file was loaded into Cura and his height adjusted to 40mm with a layer height of 0.2mm and 0% fill. A brim was added to keep him stable during printing. A left-hand and right-hand version can be made by flipping the X-axis in Cura. Once printed, the hanger hole will need cleaning out carefully with a 1mm drill bit, and when the brim has been cleaned off, he is ready for a fine paint brush and a steady hand. When dry, the earring hooks can be added, and they are ready to use. The Christmas tree decoration. Again, the file was loaded into Cura, and the height adjusted to 80mm or whatever you think is suitable. A layer height was set at 0.2mm with 0% fill. An 80mm print needed the hanger cleaning out with a 2mm drill bit. Once again, the brim needs cleaning off, then he needs painting, and he's ready for the tree. Cake topper/decoration. And then someone said if he didn't have a hanger on top of his head, you could use him for a Christmas cake decoration, a cake topper! So back into Meshmixer, hanger removed, into Cura with the same settings. Z height set to 75mm, layer height 0.2mm with 0% fill with brim for stability when printing. The brim removed and a quick paint job, and there you have him. The brim or a raft could be added and left on to aid mounting on the cake but I'll let you tinker with that one. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Remix button to find and add the file on here. This was the original I used. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34866 Following more requests, I seem to have a set of them now on the Mk2 version!! http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1917860 Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 0% Notes: Support is mostly not needed; there is a slight sagging below the bottom of the hat, but unless making a larger size isn't really necessary. A brim has been added in Cura to give more stability.
