Chaucer - A Vertical 3D Printer
thingiverse
I completed my first successful print on Chaucer, a vertical 3D printer inspired by Geoffrey Chaucer, the Father of English Literature. Modeled after a vertical milling machine, Chaucer allows for high-speed printing and prototype head experiments. Chaucer is derived from Dave Kennell's Pocket Printer, available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:19891. The printer's frame, like its predecessor, uses 20x20 and 2x60 Misumi extrusions. The maximum print volume is 160x180x110mm, but currently set to 160x140x110mm due to a misplaced heated print bed, which I will fix soon. Detailed instructions and files will be shared as time permits. Check out my first successful print video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4djXJ5xvO8o. I've uploaded the trapezoid foot files in OpenSCAD and STL formats, using a ruler model from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:30769. This foot is a modified version of the Pocket Printer's rear feet. The project's design files can be found on GitHub at https://github.com/ronsheely/Chaucer, and more information about me can be found at http://RonSheely.com, https://IronwoodLabs.com, and http://dots.IronwoodLabs.com.
