Summer residence of the Bishops-Princes of Liège until the end of the 18th century, the palace located on the banks of the Meuse is transformed into a hospital for Napoleon's troops and then becomes the seat of the Senate of Liège and finally serves as an ammunition depot. It becomes after 1815 the property of King William I of the Netherlands, who sells it in 1817 to brothers James and John Cockerill; John Cockerill becomes its sole owner in 1823. The palace now houses the offices of Cockerill Maintenance & Engineering.
