The third Charon project iteration is now ready for sharing on GrabCAD. It's a modular system that allows users to create 36 unique combinations of AR-15 lower receivers using included parts. Each receiver is designed for direct printing via FDM, SLA or SLS machines and can be milled from any material. However, due to the numerous curves, it may become heavy with reinforcement if made from metal; hence, Cura slicing program and fine layer height are recommended. Print options are left to users' discretion based on their printers. The previous version (0.2b) has been tested with live ammunition without breakages or stress signs after 96 rounds of 5.56. Files are available in SLDPRT, STEP and STL formats for easy modification using almost any CAD program. Open-source files must be renamed to avoid cross-version confusion. Any print failures, assembly issues, or testing failures should be shared on the #fosscad IRC channel on irc.oftc.net. Pictures of finished products are also welcome.
