Charles James Fox PC (24 January 1749 – 13 September 1806) was a dominant British Whig statesman whose illustrious parliamentary career spanned an impressive 38 years, eclipsing that of William Pitt the Younger. As the son of Henry Fox, a renowned Whig leader, Charles inherited his father's legacy and rivalry with the influential Pitt family. Rising to prominence in the House of Commons, Fox became known for his captivating oratory skills and flamboyant private life, which often clashed with his conservative views. However, as the American War of Independence gained momentum and he was influenced by the visionary Whig Edmund Burke, Fox's opinions underwent a dramatic transformation, cementing him as a trailblazing figure in British parliamentary history.
