Charles II, Soho Square, London

The statue originally belonged to W.S.Gilbert, residing at his home, Grim's Dyke in Harrow Weald, where it remained even after his death in 1915. However, Gilbert's widow arranged for the statue to be returned to Soho Square upon her passing. Caroline's Miscellany reveals how Gilbert acquired the statue: Thomas Blackwell, who owned the Crosse & Blackwell HQ in Soho Square, purchased the statue when he redesigned the gardens in 1975. Blackwell then gave it to artist Frederick Goodall, who lived at Grim's Dyke, and in 1890 it was sold along with the house to Gilbert.
