Bourdelle crafted this portrait of Charles Delort, a renowned genre painter, in 1884, immediately following his arrival in Paris. As a young provincial sculptor, he attempted to sustain himself by creating portraits of prominent figures within Parisian society. Delort was one of the first individuals to have sat for Bourdelle. A bronze representation of this bust was showcased at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1885.
