In Christian theology, charity is considered the greatest among the three theological virtues. This virtue is seen as the ultimate perfection of the human spirit because it reflects and glorifies God's nature. The love referred to by the term "charity" is divinely infused into the soul and resides in the will rather than emotions. According to Thomas Aquinas, charity is an absolute necessity for achieving happiness, which he believes is humanity's ultimate goal.
