Chariot wall relief, SW Palace Nimrud
sketchfab
Gypsum wall panel relief forms part of a series featuring disconnected scenes; above, a battle rages on, while below, the royal chariot waits patiently behind Tiglath-pileser III, who is prominently displayed on another adjacent panel. Two columns of inscription adorn the band at the bottom of the upper fragment. When joined with fragment BM. 132306, a complete scene unfolds, showcasing the king's chariot in motion, expertly led by two attendants. At the helm of this elaborately ornamented chariot stands the charioteer, firmly grasping the reins and a whip. The horses, adorned with their typical decorative trappings, are calmly held by two bearded men clad in a fringed tunic and a belt from which hangs a sword. Directly in front of them stands a beardless officer, who appears to be carrying the king's arsenal: a bow shaped like a duck's head, a quiver, and a mace. Date: 728BC Discovered within Tiglath-pileser III's Central Palace at Nimrud Dimensions: Upper fragment height: 231 centimetres Lower fragment height: 233 centimetres Width: 232 centimetres
