Champ S+ Propeller Adapter

Champ S+ Propeller Adapter

This is a 3D printed replica of the E-flite Prop Adapter (EFLU4067) designed for use with the UMX Beast, Champ S+, F4F Wildcat, and Waco aircraft models. It allows you to install the propeller without a spinner attached. The design requires some assembly, but is generally straightforward. The parts include three 3D printed components: 1. A main adapter that attaches to the motor. 2. A retainer that secures the propeller on the shaft. 3. An insert that fits inside the stainless-steel propeller shaft for the retainer-screw. Additionally, two non-3D printed parts are needed: 1. A 11.5mm long piece of stainless-steel tubing with an OD of 4mm and an ID of 3mm. 2. A 1.2mm screw. Printing requirements: 1. The insert is the most sensitive part to print, and printing at a low temperature along with high cooling and slow speed produces reliable results. 2. The main body and retainer are easier to print, but sticking to low temp. and slow speed also yields good results. Most prints take under 5 minutes. Assembly steps: 1. Drill out the motor-mount holes to 1.5mm. 2. Insert the propeller shaft into the stainless-steel tube and cut off any excess material. 3. Add glue to the other end of the propeller shaft, then push the insert through until it is flush. 4. Drill out the center hole in the adapter body to 4mm using a series of drill-bits. 5. Apply glue inside the hole, then insert the open end of the propeller shaft until it is flush with the bottom of the adapter body. 6. Push the 1.2mm screw through the retainer. 7. Attach the propeller to the propeller shaft. 8. Screw the retainer into the end of the propeller shaft. The reason behind this design was a fun challenge to create something unique, despite its impracticality and complexity compared to injection-molded or one-piece adapters available online.
