CHAMP design by Insero – Concept 1
grabcad
The Insero concept hails from Tallinn, Estonia, with Meelis Paas serving as project leader. This innovative design excels in simplicity and ease of use, boasting identical parts that interlock around a handrail. The locking mechanism can be customized by editing the model for varying tension. Key features include two L-track mounting options, 3D-printable components (tested with ABS using an FDM printer), and avoidance of failure due to layer direction stress. With a weight of 0.068 lbs/30.7 g, a volume of 1.586 in³/25,983 mm³, dimensions of 1.561x2.152x1.969 in/39.6x54.7x50.0 mm, and only one print required per installation (considering ISS Additive Manufacturing Capability), this concept adheres to numerous requirements, such as providing a rigid handrail connection, fitting within the defined envelope, eliminating sharp edges, and not necessitating additional tools or materials for assembly, installation, removal, or disassembly. STL files are mesh accurate for 3D printing, with STEP files attached, and parts are printed as shown in the provided images using a (-45,45) layer build-up orientation.
