Challenge entry: transportation 40 years from now
grabcad
The hypersonic high-altitude aircraft I envision could potentially exist within the next 40 years, created for participation in the Replicator 2 challenge. Time constraints meant it's not as detailed as desired, but its design revolves around two engines sharing common exhausts. During takeoff and landing, a trio of medium bypass turbofan engines are used, drawing air via an open bottom door. At 40,000 feet, upper doors open for hypersonic engines powered by hydrogen slush to take over, enabling the aircraft to reach 250,000 feet and travel at Mach 10. This dramatically reduces flight time between Los Angeles and Sydney, cutting it from 15 hours to just an hour.
