Chalciuhtlicue ("She Who Wears Jade Skirts") was a revered Aztec goddess who embodied water, rivers, seas, and storms, as well as the sacred rituals of baptism. Universally worshiped before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, Chalciuhtlicue held significant status within the Postclassic Aztec society that flourished in central Mexico. As an important deity figure, she was also closely associated with childbirth and its mystical significance.
