Covid testing is annoying and monotonous. Some testing platforms are better than others, but they all have drawbacks. If your clinical laboratory has switched to LIAT based testing like mine, then you may appreciate a little help working under the biosafety hood. LIAT reagent tubes are held (sleeve and all) by the tall rectangular hole, with most UTM/VTM container types being able to be held by the shorter, cylindrical hole. The blind holes on each side on both the tall and short sections are for keeping track of your reagent and UTM screw caps, so they're not rolling around the hood. Also, the height of the UTM block is at roughly 3mL, so you'll easily be able to tell if a specimen's volume is viable or not.
