chainsaw chain box

When I purchase a spare chain from my still chainsaw, the chain arrives in a cardboard box. Upon using the chain in the field, I quickly realize the need for this device. Sure, I can buy originals from Still, but what's the point of having a 3D printer if not to create something unique? To give this box an extra layer of functionality, I designed a counting system. The box features two dials with small notches on them. Inside the box is a pin with a small ball. I tested the fit of these components and found that they work perfectly even when using normal PLA at 210°C, providing just enough tension to keep the dial turning smoothly. With this counter in place, I can accurately track how many times the chain has been sharpened or filed, giving me an idea of whether a spare chain is new or nearly worn out. There are three types of upper parts available: one with "chain 40 cm file 4.8mm" printed on it, another with "chain 35cm file 4mm," and the third without any text at all. These are the only options I have available; if you'd like to see more designs, just let me know. As for assembling this device: Mount the two counters in their designated positions. Place a 25mm-long M3 bolt through the holes and screw it into place. On the other end of the bolt, attach an M3 nut. The nut should self-lock in the housing due to its compact size, but be careful not to over-tighten or your counters may become non-functional. To secure the hinge, drill a 2mm hole and then use 1.75mm filament to melt it into place on both sides of the hinge. This will provide a sturdy connection that won't come loose during use. This box can be repurposed for various tasks beyond its intended function. If you've created one yourself or have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Have fun building your own!
