To minimize clutter, I opted to keep just the middle chainring on my bike since I rarely used the other two. To prevent the chain from falling off, I installed a chainguard that replaces the outer chainring and works with 5-bolt, 94BCD cranksets featuring a 32-tooth chainring. For added protection, I considered using 3mm plexiglass or wooden guards but decided to remove the inner ring and front shifter as well.
