Chain v1 (looped and open versions)

Chain v1 (looped and open versions)

I've included two versions of this model, one is a complete loop, and the other is open. The main difference between the two is that the "open" version is missing one link. None of the links touch each other, so once removed from your build surface, you will have a true 3D-printed chain to secure your 3D-printed King Kong, monster, evil leprechaun, and more. Each link of the chain is 2 inches long and 1 inch wide, with a 0.25-inch diameter. Each link is tilted at a 45-degree angle, so make sure your printer can perform that task or add supports and have fun cleaning it up. I haven't printed this model yet since my printer is down for a while, but I'll post images if/when I'm able to print it. This is my first variation of this design, and it has not been tested. Print at your own risk, of course. In the future, I plan to add links to this model by using a spiral pattern instead of a simple circle. Maybe I'll even add a hook to one end and a wall-mount on the other. It would make an interesting towel hanger for your bathroom, but your wife won't like it much unless you print it in pink. The main image here shows the chain with alternating colors. If you have a dual-color printer and want to print it that way, just ask, and I'll add "Color A" and "Color B" STL files here. I might also add another version of this model with the links tilted at a lesser angle if anyone has issues printing them at 45 degrees. At any rate, I hope you enjoy it. Please share any prints, comments, or suggestions. Thanks! ***UPDATE*** I was finally able to print this model after repairing my DaVinci 1.0 Pro. I didn't use a raft or supports but should have used a raft due to the very small surface area that these chain links have to adhere themselves to the print bed. I lost several links during the print, but still ended up with a length of chain that's about 21 inches long and looks pretty nice. I printed this using black RioRand PLA at 200°F/50°C with 0.25mm layers and 15% infill. The total print time was around 5 hours and 10 minutes. Definitely use a raft if you print this object, and please share photos of your print.
