This is a pendant from the Leith Provost chain of office, crafted in 9ct gold and featuring vibrant blue enamel. The chain's history dates back to November 1st, 1833, when Leith became an independent Municipal Burgh with its own provost, magistrates, and council. Originally made in 1901 for just three Provosts of Leith, the chain fell into disuse after Leith merged with Edinburgh in 1920. Suspended from this pendant is a symbol representing the Leith Dock Commission, which took over management of Leith Docks from Edinburgh City Council in 1826. Notably, the Masters of Trinity House had representatives on this body. Today, the chain continues to be worn on special occasions by the Master of Trinity House.
