Chain Links

grabcad

Creating a chain model in Solidworks may seem challenging at first, but there is a simple method to generate links that appear visually appealing. This technique also serves as a base for physical dynamic or motion study analysis if you deactivate the constraints once the chain is in its initial position. To achieve this, draw a line through the circle which will be swept to form a link. Next, add a point on the circle that represents the inner face of the link. When assembling the links, mate the lines of adjacent links perpendicularly and ensure the points are coincident. Although the chain may not have an accurate length when stretched straight, this method offers a visually pleasing representation suitable for various purposes. It's just one helpful tip for those participating in the chain wear indicator challenge!
