Chain Drive Mechanism

Chain Drive Mechanism

grabcad

A chain drive mechanism transforms continuous rotation into reciprocating motion via a series of four identical sprockets. The brass sprocket drives the system, while the red chain link features an axle for a revolution joint with the yellow slider. The course length depends on the vertical distance between the brass sprocket and the top sprocket. Dwell time is controlled by the horizontal distance of the middle two sprockets. This video highlights the potential to create reciprocating motion with dwell at any point along the course using a chain drive mechanism with four sprockets arranged strategically.
