Chain Clock

Chain Clock

thingiverse

Featuring a rotating chain around the minute shaft, this clock displays an hour's top number. Inspired by Andreas Dober's 1993 Anthologie Quartett design, it utilizes a standard quartz motor suitable for wall-mounted clocks. To assemble, print one set of numbers, face plate, drive gear, and optional ring gear using a Mendel Prusa with ABS plastic at 0.2mm thickness. Each chain link is composed of 144 pieces, offering ease in assembly once supports are removed and holes reamed/drilled for seamless snap-together connection, with a 10mm center-to-center distance. The clock motor can be sourced locally, fitting 10 to 12 mm thick face plates. Cut down the hour shaft and fit the drive gear on the minute shaft, optionally installing a 4x8 ball bearing for minute shaft support. Glue numbers into 2x2mm holes in chain links, ensuring smooth gears and free movement for optimal enjoyment.
