CGCookie Exercise: Painting an Ax
sketchfab
Finally got around to tackling this next course! I picked up a ton of valuable information! Straightforward, easy to follow, and extremely informative overall. Believe it or not, creating this thing took me like two hours? I genuinely tried my best to play with the painting tools and options, and see what I could do. My biggest challenge is that all I have to work with is a mouse and absolutely zero painting experience. I got as far as blocking in the colors, then couldn't figure out how to add detail, so I painted the whole thing in bright colors and decided not to worry about it. Do you know how to paint right angles with a round brush? If you do, please let me know! So, what did I learn doing this exercise? Painting is really tough! I could have definitely done better. Like a quarter of the texture space went unused. The shaft is split into two offset parts that didn't layer anywhere as neatly as the ax faces. Painting is important, and pretty fun!
