CFD Optimized Replicator2 Active Cooling Fan Duct
thingiverse
The old Replicator 2 Duct delivers exceptional performance. However, outlet velocities are notably high and there's a significant forward current. That, and the fit was never great, just passable. Two years have passed, and it's time for an upgrade through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). A bigger plenum with 13 jets in a box C configuration is now in place. The hot end nozzle is correctly centered within a uniform turbulent air mass. A larger downward flow area provides improved filament cooling. The fit has improved dramatically, tighter and much more level. Tweaked and checked until it was sweet to print and effortless too. Faster STL files are now achievable by minimizing curves to reduce file size and speed CFD calculations - a clear WIN WIN situation. Less expensive, yet even more value is added, as the upgrade remains technically free to download.
