CETUS MK3: New idler for improved extruder gear
prusaprinters

UPDATE 09.10.2021: Added V2 of the idler with a tensioning mechanism. Uses an M3x40 screw and a suitable spring.

This replaces the old idler on the extruder and make space for a standard 11mm extruder gear found on many bowden style 3D printers like the Ender 3.

I replaced my original gear because it was wobbly and resulted in inconsistent extrusion. Using this mod I get perfect quality prints from the machine.

The original gear is glued onto the shaft. I carefully used a blowtorch and two flathead screw drivers to remove it easily.

DO NOT PRINT IN PLA! PLA will soften with the warm stepper. Use at least PETG, better ABS, ASA or PC for the part.

Check the full video:

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/a3oQy6v3MrA"></oembed>
