Human: The scepters are symbols of power that embody political, priestly, or military authority. In the archaeological legacy of Mixtec culture, there are four scepters originating from funeral offerings dedicated to high-ranking individuals, all crafted from sacred materials like green stone and gold.\nThis piece is made of green stone and was found as part of the offering deposited inside Tumba 2 in Zaachila, Oaxaca. The scepter represents the deity of the precious feathered serpent, whom nobles considered their mythical ancestor. In Mixtec codices, we can see numerous characters, warriors, and rulers with similar scepters in hand. The tomb and the offerings are dated to the Postclassic period, around 1250 AD.
