The Cessna O-1E/L-19 Bird Dog, originally built near scale with dimensions within 3%, was designed for observation and liaison tasks by the US Army. Serving extensively in the Vietnam War, post-retirement, many were transferred to the Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue operations. However, due to several accidents involving CAP Bird Dogs, they eventually ended up with private owners. Today, most Bird Dog models can be found with private pilots, flying museums, or as static displays in aviation museums.
