The Cessna O-1E/L-19 Bird Dog originated from an order for a light all-metal fixed-wing aircraft by the US Army, intended for observation and liaison tasks. The versatile aircraft played a significant role in the Vietnam War before being transferred to the Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue missions. Following several accidents with CAP Bird Dogs, many were sold to private owners; today, most of these aircraft are operated by private pilots, displayed in flying museums or serve as static exhibits at various aviation museums.
