Ceres
sketchfab
Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt that separates Mars and Jupiter's orbits, situated a little closer to Mars' orbit. Its diameter measures approximately 945 km (587 mi), making it the largest of the minor planets within Neptune's orbit. It ranks as the 33rd-largest known body in our Solar System and the only dwarf planet within Neptune's orbit. Ceres is composed of rock and ice, estimated to comprise about one-third of the asteroid belt's mass. Ceres is the only object in the asteroid belt rounded by its own gravity (though detailed analysis was necessary to exclude 4 Vesta). From Earth, Ceres' apparent magnitude ranges from 6.7 to 9.3, reaching a peak once every 15 to 16 months (its synodic period); therefore, even at its brightest, it appears too faint for the naked eye, except under extremely dark skies.
