Centurione I
myminifactory
This powerful sculpture embodies a single head as an unfinished mask, implying it is only a fragment of an enormous complete work. The artist behind this piece, Igor Mitoraj, brought to life in 1944 and passed away in 2014, was born to Polish/French parents in East Germany. He pursued classical painting studies in Krakow before relocating to Paris in 1968. From there, he journeyed through South America, leaving an artistic legacy that seamlessly merged the surreal with timeless Greek and Roman antiquity. In Canary Wharf, three of his works tell the story of themes that captivated him throughout his career.
