I am an undergraduate engineering researcher tasked with finding applications for 3D printers. Due to my interest in chemical and mechanical engineering, I decided to explore where these two disciplines intersect - pumps. This design is a revised version of a previous concept. The main issue with my earlier design was leakage, so this updated design addresses that problem without the use of adhesives or sealants. The design performs best when paired with 12 mm diameter flexible tubing for both the inlet and outlet. I secured the assembly together using zip ties. For testing purposes, I utilized a 12 V DC hobby motor featuring a 5 mm drive shaft. It's essential to include the motor housing STL file; however, I strongly recommend designing a custom motor housing tailored to your chosen motor. With my setup, I successfully pumped water upwards of 110 cm. To minimize leakage, seal the pump at the motor shaft insert with Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
