This is an example of a project that another student might also come up with, but as far as I know, this is a unique engineering/design project where students design something that demonstrates a scientific principle such as angular momentum or the effect the length of a pendulum has. Project: Designing Scientific Principles I think this is a fun project because the goal is to create a multi-part "toy" that demonstrates a basic scientific principle. This project can be given to middle-schoolers or students in an introductory engineering course. It should only take five days to complete, with one or two days to decide what scientific principle the student wants to demonstrate and three to four days to design the thing that will do the demonstrating. As long as students know some basic physics, the project can begin at any time the teacher chooses. Projects should be graded based on complexity of design, whether it demonstrates a scientific principle or not, and creativity of the design. My example would score high in those areas because I only slightly modified an old marble puzzle.
