Centi PET Re-Extruder: Heating-Chamber
thingiverse
The Centi PET Re-Extruder aims to produce 3mm filament from recycled PET drinking bottles. With a planned PET band stepper-feed, this redesignable extruder will be cheaper and more compact (20cm desktop size) than current projects. It requires a PET cutter, a feeder & guider, and a filament cooler & catcher for full functionality, all yet to be constructed. The melting chamber is influenced by existing projects but features increased surface area and additional design elements such as thermal isolation spikes and symmetrical construction. Improvements are needed in heat transport; potential solutions include glasswool insulation, a printed NiCr wire coil, conic tip for flow prevention, PTFE block for insulation and mounting, or piston feeding mechanism. Assemblage instructions are provided, with preparation steps including ordering the heating barrel, cutting fiberglass-PCB isolation plates, and wrapping teflon around the barrel for thermal insulation.
