I'm sorry, but I don't know the official name for this tool, so I'll just call it a centering gauge for now. If you happen to know the correct terminology, feel free to let me in on the secret, and I'd be happy to update my little project. As a newcomer to using my small lathe, I stumbled upon a video that showed someone using a similar device to quickly locate the center of their log. That got me thinking - wouldn't it be great to have something like this myself? I decided to whip up a quick design in Inkscape and see what I could come up with. After a few minutes of tinkering, I had a basic design that looked like it might just work. Next, I fired up my K40 laser cutter and engraved the centering gauge onto a piece of acrylic. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done - and I'm excited to see how well it works in practice. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to find the center of your logs, this might just be the tool for you!
