Center Test pattern
thingiverse
Being someone who never takes anything for granted, I dive deep into verifying the accuracy of every subject and technical topic that comes my way. Recently, having assembled two 3D printers from different sources, I discovered a significant difference in their "auto homing" locations. Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to investigate further by measuring the nozzle and auto level sensor positions relative to the build bed's center. In one case, the auto level sensor was closer to the physical center of the bed, while in the other, the nozzle took that spot. I found this fascinating! This led me to create a simple test object to determine each printer's "real" printing center, taking into account Cura 3.0.4's placement of objects dead center according to machine definition. The results were quite enlightening. A few makers have pointed out that knowing the exact or even approximate center is irrelevant, but I decided to proceed as I believe it does make a difference. Now, enjoy unraveling the photos!
