Centaur half-track (British prototype)
thingiverse
This is a 1:76 scale model of an intriguing prototype Land Rover variant developed by Lairds of Anglesey years ago. Despite its potential, it was only used for trials by the British Army and a small number were purchased by Middle East customers, including one used as personal transport for a North African dictator. The model offers a fun twist in wargames. The starting point was a model from the SketchUp library provided by ram0761 to whom thanks are due. However, it had many limitations so I re-engineered the design and updated sizes, suspension, and shape. As usual, the work was done using 3D Builder and Sketchup, and thanks are extended to Microsoft and AutoCAD. The half-track is a unique compromise that has not remained popular since World War II. The model features challenging tracks; they should be printed at the highest resolution (0.05mm) to maintain detail, with supports only from the base in Cura, to avoid damaging the fine tracks during cleaning. The radiator front may not be ideal but should suffice. The rest of the Land Rover parts appear to be satisfactory. Documentation suggests that the wheels and tracks originated from the Scorpion family, prompting this project's initiation, although I am unsure if the wheels are indeed Scorpion (they seem too small in photos), so my judgment was applied. The model is presented without windscreen or cab top; there are photos supporting this variant's use. Future plans include adding these features. Currently, modeling canvas covers is not a skill mastered at this stage. This model is offered with the hope of sparking interest within the community. Enjoy!
