Centaur
thingiverse
Incredible artifact discovered at Musee du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium - a stunning 3D scan of a magnificent centaur from the Hellenistic period, dating back to around 210-180 B.C.! This awe-inspiring sculpture is believed to have originated in Rome and now showcases a gripping scene where the centaur holds a sturdy stick firmly in its right hand. It's possible that this trusty stick was used by the centaur to subdue the ferocious wild boar perched on its left shoulder, adding an air of drama to the piece. This remarkable statue is part of a larger group of four centaurs - two males and two females - unearthed in the opulent villa of Poppee at Oplontis, Torr Annuziata. What's truly fascinating is that this decorative sculpture served as a vital component of a fountain, where water flowed majestically from the mouth of the wild boar, creating a breathtaking display of artistry and engineering.
