This is a template for creating Celtic or Pictish knot patterns. I have attached a completed knot as an example. The source software used is Rhino 5 and I have attached the template file for you to experiment with. You can obtain a free evaluation copy of Rhino for 90 days, after which educational licenses are available at a reasonable cost. In fact, you can accomplish a lot in just 90 days. To use this tool, simply drag and drop the 2D pattern onto the grid along with its corresponding 3D pattern. Although it may seem a bit clunky, this process allows for clear visualization of your design in 2D while assembling the 3D knot. Ultimately, I Boolean the 3D components together and export the entire pattern as a binary STL file at 0.01mm resolution. You can scale the complete pattern to suit your needs, making it deeper or wider or whatever you desire. I use a scale of 1D.
