Cell phone vacuum wrap envelope machine
thingiverse
Ok this is a 3d printed version of the machine that uses a vacuum to apply vinyl wrap to cell phones. Here is a video of it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Fb7SOvolQ In addition to the 3d printed part I needed to use a 1/8 pipe tap and a brass pipe fitting which you can easily get an any home improvement store. Then you have to connect a vacuum pump to the fitting and apply a vacuum. If you happen to already own a vacuum pump for AC systems or bleeding brakes on cars it will work great! The CAD design was a rough draft and although functional could be improved. It is only large enough for a medium sized phone. If you have a large phone you will need to scale up the design. Additionally the outer ledge on the top is probably too narrow, widening that to add surface area would help the vinyl stick. Also for some reason although I did design fully formed threads for the vacuum fitting port in fusion 360 when I went to print it they were totally missing and the hole needed to be manually tapped. I used a liberal amount of telfon tape and teflon paste and that was enough to get a decent seal between the brass fitting and tapped PLA.
