Cell culture medium bottle holder
prusaprinters
Here is an angled bottle holder, designed with cell culture in mind. It simplifies my workflow as I would often find myself having to put down whatever tube I am holding to use one for the pipette, and the other for holding the medium bottle at an angle to avoid contamination. It is designed to hold square 500 mL bottles, and has a notch on the back to place the bottle cap. The angle of the bottleneck in the holder should roughly match the angle of bottles that already have an angled neck, such as the GIbco ones. So hopefully this streamlines the workflow if you have multiple bottles under the hood. The model is designed so that it should not tip even with a full bottle (including the different additives that you might add to the medium), I would still recommend trying out the holder with your closed bottle first to make sure of that. The lowest point of the bottle once in the holder is a bottom corner, that sould allow for maximal medium recovery. The cap notch is on the left side because I use the pipette in the left hand, therefore I place medium bottles on my right, and this allows the cap to be out of the way and limit contamination risks. Depending on how you prefer to work I would suggested printing the original model or mirror it, to have the cap away from you.PrintingNo support needed. I printed mine in PLA, low infill, with a 0.8 nozzle to go fast. a few things I would change though : -PLA means that it won't withstand many UV or solvent hood cleaning. You know how it is, you print in PLA because “it's just a first prototype”, the prototype works, it is now a final product. I think printing in ASA would fix these problems, however I don't have an enclosure (yet).-The 0.8 nozzle led to a weird hole where the cap notch is closest to the bottle opening (where the model is quite thin tbh). Not a problem functionally speaking, just a bit ugly, maybe printing with a standard 0.4 nozzle would lead to a cleaner look.
