Celestron Electronic Focus Motor Adapter for Older C8 SCT

Celestron Electronic Focus Motor Adapter for Older C8 SCT

thingiverse

I designed this adapter to mount a Celestron Electronic Focus Motor to an older (mid to late 80's) C8 SCT. I got the spacing for the screws that mount this to the focuser from the bearing cover, and the outer screw holes from the adapters included for the newer Celestron SCTs. Remove the manual focusing knob, and mount the adapter over bearing cover using the stock screws. There should be a bit of clearance between the bottom of the adapter and the back of the SCT tube. You can then mount the focus motor onto the adapter using the captive screws on the motor. I threaded the screws from the motor straight into the adapter and it has been holding up fine since the weight of the motor is supported by the focusing shaft and the screws just keep the motor from rotating. Printing: Print this any which way you like. I printed this with the bottom on the bed so that the visible surfaces have the better finish. I printed it in PLA with six walls and 50% infill. That's probably overkill, but I wanted to make sure it would be durable since it does bear some mechanical load. The inner clearance is pretty tight so you may need to clean up the bottom of the inner cavity the bearing cover fits into or print it on a raft if your print has any elephant foot.
