WARNING! DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY AT THE SUN WITHOUT PROTECTION. EXPOSURE CAN RESULT IN PERMANENT BLINDNESS IF YOU DON'T TAKE PRECAUTIONS! ONLY USE FILTERS RATED FOR VIEWING THE SUN TO AVOID SERIOUS HARM! USE THIS DESIGN AT YOUR OWN RISK, BUT BE WARNED: IT'S NOT WORTHY OF ANYTHING LESS THAN CAUTION. Alright, now that the essentials are out of the way. In preparation for what many have dubbed "the Great American Eclipse" on August 21, 2017, I decided to create a more refined method for securing solar filters to my telescope's front. It is an uncomplicated design that places a sheet of specialized solar film between two rings and then friction fits the entire assembly onto the telescope's front. ADDITIONAL WARNING: Do not attempt to align your scope with the sun without the proper filter on the front lens of your telescope; this could cause irreparable damage or, worse still, eye injury. Happy and safe eclipse viewing to one and all!
