Dated Western Jin period (3rd century). Zhejiang Provincial Museum's Gushan Branch displays this object from Yue kiln, located in Hangzhou, China. Like other jars from the same area during the same time frame, this piece is marked by a cover molded into a building complex that echoes Han ritual architecture's "Hall of Light (mingtang)." Four small corner pavilions surround the central tower, which boasts three stories as indicated by its three layers of eaves. Prominent acroteria adorn the roof ridges. The tower and pavilions are enclosed by four pairs of watchtowers at the cardinal directions. Eight curved objects protruding from atop the watchtowers resemble brackets, with scroll-like ends and a unique curving body not seen elsewhere.
