Mounting speakers or other items to a ceiling grid in your basement has never been easier. When setting up a home theater system, attaching speakers can be a challenge, especially when searching for ceiling grid clips that fit. I found myself struggling with this issue until I created these custom clips using OpenSCAD. The design allows you to adjust parameters based on speaker size and placement. I needed to mount small 4" speakers in my basement, but the standard clips were too expensive. By designing my own clips, I was able to find a solution that fits my needs perfectly. If you have larger speakers, you may want to adjust the post_extender parameter for optimal fit. The weight of smaller speakers like mine has no impact on grid stability, so use your best judgment when hanging heavier items. I also experimented with an innovative "ball mount" design, but it still requires refinement. The ball attachment needs improvement, and the structure is not yet stable enough to support different angles. My goal is to create a system that allows speakers to be positioned at various angles for optimal sound quality. Print Settings: I used standard PLA material, 10% infill, and 2 shells with a resolution of 0.200 mm on my Makerbot Replicator+. These settings worked perfectly, but you may want to increase the infill percentage for added strength. To print the clip, place it with its body facing down and the nail pointing up. Yes, the nail cap will still print correctly without any support material. Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator+ Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.200 Infill: 10% Notes: Print settings are not crucial, but increasing infill can enhance the clip's strength. Despite its appearance, you can print this design with the nail cap facing up without any support material. I used PLA and found that the above settings provided enough flexibility to securely snap around the grid.
