CD-Rom Motor Pump with hose adapter
thingiverse
This is an updated version of Skimbal's CD-Rom Motor Pump. I added space for my Hose Adapter which makes it easy to use the pump with almost any hose. My version like Skimbal's is designed for a CD-Rom Motor that you can get from CD and DVD drives. These motors are usually 6V DC, but I used 7.2V in the video (not recommended for long running times). I also experimented with Blender, so I added a rendered image and the Blender file. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Original Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.20mm Infill: 20% Post-Printing Customization Use OpenSCAD or the Customizer to make the adapter fit your needs (PumpHoseAdapter.scad or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1494628). Don't use a hose that's too big (Ø over 6mm) or you won't get a good flow of fluid, at least not as high as with a smaller diameter like 4 or 3mm. Instructions 1) Print out your customized hose adapter, the casing, the base, and the impeller. I used PLA, but ABS and PET will last longer especially when exposed to sunlight, water, or other fluids. 2) Drill out the center of the impeller so it fits on the motor's shaft 3) Use a knife to cut the support tower out of the center of the casing 4) Press the motor firmly into the top of the casing 5) Press the impeller down onto the motor shaft, but not all the way. Leave a little space between the top of the impeller and the base of the housing. 6) Power the motor and use sandpaper against the spinning impeller to smooth out any high spots 7) Place the adapter in its space (you might have to make it fit with sandpaper or a file, be careful not to remove too much) 8) Press the base on 9) Attach your hose (you might have to fix it with a clamp) DONE! Now you can pump fluids around. But be careful with hydrazin, nitroglycerin, and other dangerous fluids or you might damage more than just your pump.
