CD Hub Clamp
thingiverse
This 5 mm hub mounts a standard CD or DVD on a shaft. The OpenSCAD file is included so you can customize the diameter and change the number of spokes as needed. However, keep in mind that the file has been optimized for my Ultimaker 2 printer and may require adjustments for other printers to ensure a tight fit. I also used superglue to secure the mount. Why do I need this? I'm using a DVD as a round shape, mounted on a stepper motor shaft, with an optical mouse reading data from a strip of paper wrapped around the rim. This setup allows me to measure the rotation angle, which is crucial for calibrating a microstepping driver. The python code to read data from a USB mouse is also included, specifically designed for Debian Linux. As an update, I'm impressed that many people have downloaded this - I suspect my use case was quite unique. I'd love to know how others are using this setup in their own projects!
