With just a small piece of printed plastic, you can transform your old CD cases into a towering beacon of light. Utilize the connectors to form either squares or pentagons, then stack them as high as you have cases on hand. If you run low, simply purchase more albums, discard the CDs, and continue stacking. With these decorative lamps, the cases may possess more value than the music itself! Rotate each layer so that the square or pentagon fits snugly into the groove created by the connectors below. In other words, each CD case layer should rest directly on top of the cases in the previous layer, not on the connectors themselves. This will maintain level and greatly enhance stability. You may need to jiggle the layer box to get it to fit between the connectors. To reduce glare while still allowing light to pass through, cut recycled office paper to place inside each CD case. If your case features a clear insert, you can position the paper underneath; otherwise, you might want to secure the corners with tape. Remove any black or white inserts as they will completely block the light. The pentagon example employs a multi-color LED strip, easily obtainable on E-bay, which is run up through the bottom of the lamp. You can secure it in place using various methods; I utilized a wooden skewer and a clothespin. The square was stacked above the base of an old floor lamp, with four candelabra-sized LEDs illuminating it. I've ordered an LED Sound Sensor to convert the tower into a syncopated spire, but it has yet to arrive. Thanks are due to Galile0 and the CD case dollhouse for inspiring this project. Printer Settings: Printer: Custom Prussa Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .32 Infill: None Notes: You may need to adjust the size by a percentage or two to ensure a snug fit, as all printers are not calibrated identically. I recommend printing a single sample to test the fit and then making any necessary adjustments accordingly.
