Cavern Raised Floors - Insertable Tiles
thingiverse
These are raised cavern floor tiles designed to work seamlessly with Dwarven Forge cavern tiles, OpenForge, Fat Dragon Games and other similar systems. The tops feature indented slots that allow you to drop in any 2x2 tile of your choice, giving you the flexibility to create a variety of terrain features such as flat caverns, pools, stalacmites, stairs or anything else you can imagine. The primary intention behind these tiles is to provide height variation in cavern settings by allowing you to stack them on top of flat cavern tiles. The slots on the top should be compatible with any terrain piece measuring about 51mm x 51mm, although they can be easily upsized for use with larger pieces if desired. To add even more variety to your designs, remember that you can mirror the X axis on each tile to create a mirrored version of the piece. This simple trick will give you an instant variation on each design without requiring any additional printing time or effort. New versions of these tiles were released in August 2018, featuring some slight size adjustments after testing with Fat Dragon Games STL files. The updated designs also include additional rocks placed near the steps to ensure miniatures can comfortably stay on the steps. Furthermore, a second version of each tile was added, which features a hollowed-out section that still allows for 2x2 tiles to rest on the flat part. This design modification not only saves printing time and filament but also creates opportunities for interesting pits or other terrain features.
