Cathedral range topo
thingiverse
A topographic map illustrates Yosemite National Park's Cathedral Range, with 200% height representation for a realistic climbing feel. The data set is derived from 1/3 arc-second information from the National Map. A big thank you to gluetolf for sharing an effective technique on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27194). This map is ideal for visualizing the Cathedral Traverse route. Detailed instructions on creating models from digital elevation data are available on my blog at http://www.the3dprintedfuture.com/shapespeare/?p=1. The model took 5.5 hours to build with a FlashForm Creator, sliced using MakerWare, and printed in JET ABS. Although the appearance is not natural, printing it vertically produces a smoother texture, but horizontally showcases extrusion lines resembling contour lines on a map.
