History unfolds with the Christian conquest of Badajoz city in 1230; following this event, Fray Pedro Pórez was appointed as Bishop two years later, a significant turning point necessitating the construction of a grand cathedral. Campo de San Juan, an area situated beyond the city's citadel walls, was selected for its strategic location. By 1276, the magnificent cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist had been consecrated and finally brought to life after centuries of building. The prolonged construction work spanning over three hundred years only reached completion by the late eighteenth century. The cathedral stands out in more ways than one; outside it bears an uncanny resemblance to a fortress - sturdy walls, towering battlements and an imposing, elegant tower with the massive bell hanging heavy atop its three-story structure that soars eleven meters wide and forty-one meters high. Towering high into the sky as an exceptional feature of foreign influence. Despite being envisioned originally to construct not one but two prominent towers positioned elegantly on both sides of the primary entrance facade however unforeseen twists and turns through city history prevented their construction leaving behind today only what we can observe and cherish. Unique features: La Puerta de San Juan, La Puerta del Cordero and La Puerta de San Blas remain the epitome of historical and architectural prowess forever encapsulated in this 3D masterpiece.
