Cathedral of Hildesheim Font
myminifactory
The font boasts elaborate depictions on its cover, showcasing Moses and Aaron standing proudly on either side of an altar. Nearby, a poignant Allegory of Pity is displayed alongside the sacred Anointing of Christ by St Mary Magdalen. The Passage through the Red Sea of the Israelites, the revered Ark of the Covenant, and the Baptism of Christ are also skillfully rendered. Additionally, the Virgin and Child are elegantly depicted between two dignified bishops, with the Provost Wilbernus humbly at their feet; the figures supporting the font effectively symbolize the Rivers of Paradise. The font was generously gifted to the Cathedral of Hildesheim by Wilbernus, a prominent Provost of Hildesheim from 1216 to 1220.
